Justin, one of SUNY Poly’s favorite Aramark workers. Born and raised in the Utica area, Justin is the third youngest child in his family. Growing up, he was involved in sports, often playing soccer and football. He attended Proctor High School and then went on to study for a trade at Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC). He graduated in 2018 as a New York State Licensed Security Guard. In 2022, Justin went back to MVCC to receive a certificate in Digital Marketing. A fun fact about Justin is that music has always been one of his passions. He has been a music producer since he was a teenager; his productions range from music such as R&B, country beats, pop, and rock. As of now, Justin wants to learn how to play the piano.
We have chosen to highlight Justin today as he has been such a delightful worker and never fails to bring a positive attitude towards the students and staff. He has been a dedicated worker at SUNY POLY for 10 years. Justin has worked for our food service provider under Sodexo and now Aramark. Justin works in the Student Center on weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. He enjoys working with his fellow staff members and plans to stay at SUNY Poly to build up his career here. Outside of his primary job, Justin continues to hustle at his part-time job at Wingstop. Here, he works on weekdays from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. Justin expressed “...It can be tough and frustrating sometimes but you gotta make it work.”
Despite his time constraints, Justin makes time to do things he is passionate about and works toward achieving his yearly goals. His 2024 goal is to take care of himself, be financially stable, and invest in his future. He plans to find time in his busy schedule to take piano lessons or touch up on his keyboard skills.
“If you wanna get places in life you have to bug people sometimes. Keep calling, connecting, and asking all your questions. Polite persistence is not annoying, it is necessary in some aspects of your life to get where you want to be…Life is never going to be easy; you will go through
trials and tribulations. Patience as well as
perseverance will get you to where you want to be.”
Justin is a true hustler and dedicated to building up the bag. He stresses, “If you’re trying to accomplish a goal and get to a certain place that’s not reachable at the moment, you have to sacrifice some things to get there.” Being mindful and educating yourself along the way are key factors to making your goals attainable.
Justin is one of the most kind-hearted staff members at Poly. Every time I see him, we catch up and talk about our week. He even gives students advice. He was delighted to complete the interview to support my work as a student. He advises students to stay focused, finish school, and focus on what makes them happy in the future.
