The Future of DC

The Future of DC

The Batman movie was probably the best DC movie in a long time, and now we must wait for the other DC movies to release to see how good these movies are. Since everyone here is primarily a Marvel fan and there aren’t many DC fan, but you never know, the movies may surprise you. But the question is will DC ever be able to top the success of Batman?

Comic book wise, DC will likely come back. However, when it comes to the movies and TV shows, I'm not sure how DC will catch up to the praise Marvel is getting from its fans. There are many DC movies that are coming out soon or that haven't been revealed yet. It might not even be possible to catch up to Marvel since Warner Brothers is trying their best with DC content, especially since they choose what is good or bad. For example, when the 2017 version of Justice League came out, Snyder left mid-production due to a family tragedy. Joss Whedon, who directed the first two Avenger films, became the new director of Justice League, completely changing the film. There were reports of Whedon threatening cast members and doing many other shady things on set. It wasn’t until 5 years later when we got the official release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League, which exceeded fan expectations. The release of a the new Suicide Squad movie titled The Suicide Squad directed by James Gunn, who made a phenomenal film with the a great cast and good humor.

The upcoming lineup of DC movies is both interesting and promising. For example, Shazam 2: Fury of the Gods, Black Adam with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, and The Flash with Ezra Miller reprising the role from the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Unfortunately, due to his recent allegations against Ezra Miller, that movie may not be coming out anytime soon. It would be unfortunate since Ben Affleck and Micheal Keaton would both be returning as Batman. I hope this movie gets released since it would have been a long period of time since Michael Keaton was Batman/Bruce Wayne. This movie would also establish the multiverse in the DC universe since they made so many films either in the universe or not connected to the universe. Not much is known about the Black Adam since it recently finished production, but it should be set in the DC universe and he will be facing the Atom Smasher again, a person who can shrink and grow similar to Ant-Man, Hawkman an ancient man who has super strength and can fly with wings, Doctor Fate a Doctor Strange sort of magician but deals with order and chaos and Isis part of the Shazam family. Black Adam was supposed to be the villain in Shazam 2, but plans changed around, and he is getting his own movie. There are a few multiple movies and HBO Max series in production including Blue Beetle, who's a Hispanic boy with an alien attached to his back, Batgirl starring Leslie Grace as the caped crusader appearing with Michael Keaton’s Batman. There will also be two spinoff series from The Batman including the Arkham Asylum series and the Penguin series.

Hopefully the DC world can come back and thrive in the way Marvel is thriving. Personally, I doubt it, but anything is possible especially with what Matt Reeves has done with The Batman which creates the possibility for multiple movies in the future with the cast and the two spinoff shows. I really am excited and a bit worried at the same time, because Warner Brothers and Discovery are now one big company which could mean big things for the future or no changes at all.
